I am fairly sure that the majority of people will have experienced this annoyance. You end up having to chase up the company by telephoning them back. There is always an excuse of course – I was going to phone you back however I was just waiting for a colleague to get back to me. Sorry but that just is not good enough, the customer services worker could and should have phoned me on that day, the day they had said that they would, to inform me that they were still awaiting for information from their colleague. If they had done this I would have classed them as having excellent communication skills.

I, being the type of person that I am, will then relay how badly I have been treated at the hands of this company to my family and friends. They then in turn are likely to continue to spread the word as to how poor this business is in the ever essential role of communication. It is fairly obvious that productivity could well be effected if the communication skills are not up to scratch.

When A Good Employee Leaves Do You Know Why?

While employed employees can be reluctant to criticize their managers for fear of the consequences, they can however be more candid when completing an employee exit survey.

Exit surveys are unlikely to prevent an individual from changing their mind and staying but what they will do is help an organization identify problem areas that if left unchecked could result in the remaining employees suffering form poor moral and further resignations.

Lack of Career Development

Not all employees desire, nor can employers always provide their employees with a clear and long term career path. There are just as many people that find comfort and security in doing one job well as there are people that need to feel that they are continual being challenged, learning new skills and moving onwards and upwards with respect to the corporate ladder. For organizations to succeed and excel they need the high flyers as well as the steady Eddies of the world.

Sub-standard Management

Timing of the exit survey

Exit surveys can be conducted as part of the termination procedures or they can be delayed for a few months if the employee is in agreement.

There can be an advantage in delaying an exit survey for a few months in that a former employee may be less emotional and more honest with their views and may be in a position to compare their previous role with their new role.

The advantages with conducting an exit survey as part of the termination procedure is that although emotions may be running high it is probably more reflective of the employee’s state of mind and therefore closer to the reasons they have decided to leave (justified or otherwise). If left until later any comparison between their old and new roles may be the result of them putting on a brave face, and if reasons are given that require action, the delay may well hinder the problem from being resolved.

Organization that include exit surveys as part of their employee termination procedures will generally benefit in a number of ways. Recently I found this to be true because of the new client I started working for who couldn’t get to the first page of Google.

The first page I read made me wonder why it was even there.  The quality of the writing on every single page was horrible, and seemed to be written by someone whose English skills where questionable at best.  It is obvious that the work was not well written, unfortunately it is easy to tell that someone was using a content article spinning rewrite program to complete the task.

Most of these pages were also in some pretty competitive keywords, like 4 million competing sites and up so it was very clear and obvious to me the previous ‘seo’ guy didn’t know what he was doing or was extremely lazy.

The site was so poorly formatted internally, the anchor text were things like home and now, they weren’t going after their key words with their inner text links, and there was no site map for the search bots to easily follow.  This is SEO 101 and none of it had been done.

If Google or any search engine for that matter was properly optimizing content then obviously the page results that show up as top results just would never happen.  So I continued my research and what did I find?

All of the sites had mucho one way links to their domain even if they were trashy links from low quality and low authority websites.  Next I examined the sites which were on later pages of Google, and I discovered that even though the non-English content was the same, there weren’t any links.  So then I decided to take a look at the pages they couldn’t get ranked and see what the problem was…it turned out to be too few incoming backlinks.

In a fortnight I became a hero.You know How? I copied the links from other pages. Now my client is able to be on the first page of Google for the  sites he hired me for.

My primary aim is to make them understand that they can get fast results. I will now get them quality links from power and authority domains. Their sites will stay in their first page rankings.
